News & Events > Advancing Medicaid Reform
Event Session:: 07.18.2012 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM
See available presentations from the conference.
Health care providers and health plans across New York are rapidly implementing the multiple reforms adopted by the Medicaid Redesign Team and enacted by the State. As these reforms promise to transform New York’s Medicaid program, our dynamic local health care environment is challenged by uncertainty in Washington, stemming from an impending Supreme Court decision about the Affordable Care Act, a national election, and a looming battle over deficit reduction.
The United Hospital Fund’s 2012 Medicaid conference--Advancing Medicaid Reform--will explore the possible impact of these powerful forces beginning with a keynote address by New York’s Medicaid Director, Jason Helgerson, on recent activities and accomplishments, ongoing challenges and opportunities, and priorities for the future. Following the keynote, Sara Rosenbaum of George Washington University will analyze the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Affordable Care Act and preview November’s national elections and their significance for health policy.
After lunch, the Commissioner of New York State’s Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, Courtney Burke, will explain the agency’s agenda for improving care for the Medicaid beneficiaries it serves. The conference will conclude with a panel discussion of leaders of behavioral health organizations, managed long-term care plans, and health homes focusing on improving service delivery and prioritizing performance measurement.
